BPA exposure before birth may be linked to behavior problems in girls

by Drs. Gurney & Marina Pearsall 25. October 2014 12:57

According to a recent study of 244 pregnant women and their 3 year old children by the Department of Environmental Health at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, it was found that Bisphenol A (BPA) may impact the brain development of a female fetus. The study shows that as the pregnant mother ingests BPA, the fetus is also exposed to it and may alter the development of the brain leading to future behavioral problems such as hyperactivity and anxiety. It is not clear why this connection has been made only with girls and not boys, but it is obvious that more research is going to be needed to understand the other long and short term effects associated with high levels of BPA.

Our physicians have long been aware of the risks associated with exposure to BPA. BPA and phthalates are eight hormone mimicking chemical compounds which interfere directly with hormone regulation and endocrine function.  They are commonly found in plastics, canned goods and even medical IV tubing. For these reasons we have made sure all of our tubing and other plastic supplies are free of these toxins
