Today is my mom's birthday! Happy birthday! I wanted to give her a "shout out" on here because I've informed all of you in the past year on her ups and downs with her health. I thought this would be a perfect time for an update. My mom continues to take a prescription for Vitamin D, she takes medicine to prevent her migraines, for the neck and back: a Tens Unit, daily workouts in the pool, and yoga to help manage the pain. She is no longer getting the migraines frequently, in fact, the last one was in the winter, hooray! She is still having an insurmountable amount of neck and back pain an no doctor thinks it would be worthwhile to operate because she has severe arthritis up and down the spinal cord which would be severely inflammed if doctors went in to take out the 2 herniated discs she has. In summary, it would be a horrible surgery with not much relief. All she can do is see a pain management specialist to figure out what techniques will help give her the least amount of pain. Any kind of lengthy driving, even an hour, gets her neck and back pain going. She is one of the strongest people I know. To try and live life happily in chronic pain is something that is hard for me to imagine. She is my best friend and a fantastic mom. I pray that some kind of technology in the near future can help her. If any of you know a great neck and back doctor that is creative, has an open-mind, and the patience to try new things, please let me know.
